The Secret to Outstanding Turkey Hunting
You might have discovered by now that hunting turkeys is more difficult than it seems if you're a beginning or intermediate hunter. A turkey in the wild is a difficult bird to hunt and pursue, despite it's name. The turkey has an unexpected intelligence and sharp vision and it's prowess should not be taken for granted. It can take a long time for a hunter to advance the qualifications it takes to close in on and sneak up on a turkey. However, with a superior kind of camouflage, you can significantly raise your chances in turkey hunting and have the edge. This lowers the visibility for the turkeys and makes it possible the hunter to close enough distance to take a shot.

For the individual on the field, the most effective form of camouflage out there is the ghillie suit, which was created over 150 years ago in the highlands of Scotland. It is a suit you can put on your regular clothes to drastically transform your appearance and dramatically lower your visibility to game in the wild. Ghillie suits operate by having pieces of fabrics of jute and burlap that hang down all around the outfit. This breaks up the pattern and frame of the human wearer and makes them blend in to their surroundings. If a hunter is being really quiet, the ghillie camo is so efficient that it's possible for unsuspecting animals to come right up to them.

A turkey's keen vision is confused when human forms are broken up with the help of a ghillie suit. To prevent a wounded turkey from running off in the woods a hunter must get in a range to have a quick kill shot to have success. By moving slowly and keeping low to the ground, a hunter can close the distance between themselves and a gang of turkeys.

It is ideal to try and locate turkeys at night as they are getting ready to roost. It is extremely difficult to stalk a turkey. In fact, if you see a turkey on the field there's a great possibility it's already located you. It is challenging to stalk them because they not only can see a large distance but have a broad range to their eyesight. To avoid predators from sneaking up on them, a group of turkeys will face each other in circles to cover all sides on the field.

It can be a slow process that takes a large amount of time being really still if you decide to stay in a single place in a heavily populated turkey area. And there's the chance that a group of wary gobblers will spot you the moment you move and be on the run before you get the chance to put a good shot . It might take patience and ingenuity, but it is possible to get within shooting distance of a group of turkeys. With a good rifle, a ghillie suit, and an effective turkey call you can get those turkeys for good.
